News on new Mayo senior football manager imminent

With the interviews for the new Mayo Gaelic football senior manager having taken place, it is expected that the chosen one to take over from Kevin McStay will be announced very soon, writes Aiden Henry.

It is believed that there were only two people interviewed for the job, Tony McEntee and Andy Moran, with the latter emerging as clear favourite to replace McStay.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that an executive meeting of the Mayo County Board has been called for tonight (Monday), where the members are expected to be briefed on the outcome of the interviews.

The members of the executive are also expected to be informed of the person the interviewers felt should be put to a full county board meeting for ratification - most likely Moran, a former standout forward with Mayo.

The only other scenario would be that the interviewers felt neither Moran or McEntee were suitable for the Mayo job, and they sought the support of the executive to head-hunt some other person to take on the role.

While this is possible, it is a situation that is very unlikely, and we can expect that it will be Moran, most likely, or perhaps McEntee who will be the next Mayo senior manager.
