Council outdoor staff must be deployed to rural Mayo towns and villages too
THE arrival of additional new outdoor staff in the Castlebar Municipal District has been welcomed. But Councillor Harry Barrett wants to see them operating in rural towns and villages too.
He cited Laherdane as an example, where he recently met with the Tidy Towns and community development group.
There is, he said, frustration at the lack of hours given by the council for jobs like cleaning gulleys, weeding and sweeping. And not only that village or town, but others like Parke, Ballyvary and Balla.
Councillor Barrett requested a schedule to show how many hours the villages will receive once the staff are trained in.
Heavy work should not be left to the voluntary groups. “They pay LPT and they are entitled to a service,” he commented.
