€81,378 raised for hospice through Brennan family’s Mayo Challenge
A total of €81,378 has been raised for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation through a community effort led by the Brennan family in memory of their beloved son and brother, Seamus.
The Brennan family launched The Mayo Challenge to honour Seamus while giving back to the hospice that provided him with exceptional care and compassion.
Friends, family and colleagues united to take on a three-part endurance challenge on July 5 - running a half-marathon, cycling the scenic Mayo greenway, and climbing iconic Croagh Patrick - as a tribute to Seamus’s courage and the resilience of those who supported him.
Building on the momentum of The Mayo Challenge, the Brennan family also ran an exclusive Oasis premium tickets raffle on iDonate. Supporters had the chance to win four premium tickets for the band’s concerts at Croke Park, with every ticket purchased directly supporting the foundation’s vital palliative care work.
Said Brian Brennan: “We organised a fundraising event, in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, to mark the first anniversary of our beloved son and brother, Seamus, who sadly passed away in the hospice last August. As a family, we wanted to do something meaningful to honour the memory of our beloved son and brother, Seamus.
"In remembering Seamus’s strength, warmth, and spirit, we wanted to give back to the hospice that provided him with such exceptional care and compassion.
"Our deep gratitude to the hospice team inspired us to create a heartfelt challenge, The Mayo Challenge, that would reflect Seamus’s courage and the resilience of those who supported him."
This fundraising milestone comes as the foundation celebrates over two years since the opening of the Roscommon Hospice and four years since Mayo Hospice began welcoming patients in Castlebar. Both facilities - fully funded by public donations totalling €16.3 million - represent major achievements for the foundation and the communities they serve.
Since 1993, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation has supported more than 20,000 patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses across the two counties.
Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, said: “The Brennan family’s generosity and determination have been nothing short of inspiring. This incredible community effort shows what’s possible when people come together for a cause close to their hearts.
"We’re deeply thankful to every single person who has donated, joined the challenge, or supported the raffle. This huge donation will go a long way in supporting those in our community who are living with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring they receive the compassionate, specialist care they deserve, and providing comfort and dignity to them and their loved ones during the most difficult of times.”
