Eight Mayo AC runners tackle the Streets of Galway

Mayo AC were represented by eight runners in the 39th edition of the Streets of Galway 8k on Saturday last.

Almost 3,000 participants ran on a familiar course that starts near the Claddagh. It passes the city's central landmarks – Eyre Square, the Salmon Weir Bridge and the University – before heading out to Salthill via St. Mary's Road and then turning back along the bay to the finish at South Park.

John Travers of Donore Harriers AC was the winner in 23:26. He won the race for the first time in 2018 in 23:56.

American long-distance runner Emily Sisson was the first woman back at the Claddagh in 24:59, beating the women’s course record of 26:01 held by Rosemary Ryan since 2001.

She finished 23rd in the Paris Olympics Marathon in 2024. In April 2025 she set a new Irish All-Comers record for 5k at the Streets of Kilkenny race, finishing in 14:58.

Ide Ni Dhomhnaill, Donore Harriers AC, was second in 27:43, with Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise AC third in 27:44. Ni Dhomhnaill won the women’s race in 2022 and 2023.

Dan Charlton was the first Mayo AC runner home in an excellent 26:39 for 24th overall and fourth M40.

Rowland McIntyre was next in 29:11, followed by Matthew Gill (30:02), Tony O’Malley (30:25, third M50) and Art Maguire (30:35).

Congratulations to Colette Tuohy, who won the F55 category in 32:33 – great running!

Catherine Conway (W40) crossed the line in 35:06 and Regina Kiernan (W60) ran 47:44.
