Road works underway in Snugboro.

Road and path works to improve safety at Mayo school

WORKS have commenced to widen a stretch of road and install a footpath close to St. Peter's National School in Snugboro, Castlebar.

Councillor Ger Deere, who has welcomed the works, has campaigned for them to take place to improve safety for pupils and the wider community.

He said: “When completed, these works will make it much safer for the large number of pupils attending the local national school and the local community.

“It is a popular walking route used by residents in nearby housing estates in the Rathbaun/Garryduff area.”

Councillor Deere added that he will be working towards connecting a footpath linking to paths in Rathbaun.

Councillor Deere said he wished to thank the landowners who accommodated this work to happen and in particular to remember the late local land owner, Tom McGough, who was so helpful, and also the outgoing principal of Snugboro NS and pupils to campaigned for this to happen.
