Speculation mounts over Gallagher brothers’ visit to east Mayo town
CHARLESTOWN is buzzing with excitement after a video posted by Ireland West Airport Knock this afternoon fuelled rumours that Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher could be on their way to their mother’s hometown.
With no solid proof or sighting of the brothers, Oasis fans are still expected to flock to the town to search for the famous duo themselves.
The Britpop legends played two sell-out shows at Dublin’s Croke Park over the weekend, where Liam paid tribute to Charlestown.
During the concert he dedicated Roll With It to the town, asking if anyone in the 80,000-strong crowd was from Charlestown before joking that he doubted it, “there’s only five people there.”
The Gallagher brothers’ mother Peggy, hails from Sonnagh, just outside the town, before she emigrated to Manchester where she raised her family.
The siblings have previously been spotted in Charlestown, often calling into Finan’s pub in the town centre.
Local radio stations have dispatched reporters to the area amid growing speculation, with many fans believing the pair might squeeze in a visit before their next tour date in Toronto on Saturday.
After their Dublin shows, the Gallaghers and friends marked the occasion with a post-concert party in O’Donoghue’s of Merrion Row but in Charlestown, anticipation is high for a possible homecoming of its most famous musical sons.
