Stores a fine trade at Mayo mart
SATURDAY'S sale at Balla Mart saw some well fed Continental bullocks, with a fine trade for stores up to 500kg, the best of which were all bought for feeding from €5 to €6.30/kg.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €5.30/kg, store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.74/kg, while heavier bullocks 500kg plus averaged €4.50/kg.
A year old bullock weighing 395kg was sold for €6.35/kg by a Claremorris farmer.
Another farmer, from Kilmaine, had a great pen of bullocks and one 865kg bullock made €3,760 (€4.35/kg), the best of these heavy bullocks being bought by a northern factory buyer.
Prices in the bullocks included: 395kg CHX €2,510; 455kg LMX €2,880; 585kg LM €3,360; 710kg LM €3,580; 865kg CHX €3,760.
There was a great yard of heifers with approximately 300 on offer this week. The stronger heifers weren't quite as good as last week, as can be seen by the average of €4.57/kg, but that's still nearly double what they were this time last year.
Lighter store heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €5.20/kg, heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.85/kg, and heavier stock 500kg plus heifers averaged €4.57/kg.

Dry cows 500kg plus averaged €3.89/kg. The tops in the dry cows was a BBX weighing 855kg that made €3,840 (€4.49/kg) for a farmer from Dunmore.
Best in the springers was a three-year-old Charolais cow with its time up, bought online for €4,000 from a Enniscrone farmer.
There were very little weanlings as they will be selling on Tuesday evening, August 26, with the weanling show and sale to be held on September 9.
