Geoffrey Bourke, Head of Customer Operation with Uisce Éireann: 'strongly encourages' customers to sign up for text alerts to stay informed about issues affecting their local water supplys

Uisce Éireann urges Mayo customers to sign up for free water text alerts

Uisce Éireann is calling on households and businesses in Mayo to register for its free text alert service, which provides real-time updates on water outages, supply interruptions and boil water notices.

More than 7,500 people in Mayo have already signed up, joining over 250,000 customers nationwide. With almost two million homes and businesses served by Uisce Éireann, the utility is encouraging many more to get on board.

The service delivers tailored alerts directly to mobile phones for disruptions lasting longer than four hours, whether planned or unplanned. Since its launch in 2024, over one million text alerts have been issued.

Geoffrey Bourke, Head of Customer Operations, said the alerts are an important tool in keeping communities informed as major investment in water infrastructure gets underway.

“Replacing and upgrading Ireland’s water infrastructure is a national priority, and we fully recognise that this work can result in temporary water outages and supply interruptions. Our text alert system allows us to communicate directly with customers throughout Mayo, helping them understand the scale of the work and the potential impacts,” he said.

Uisce Éireann plans to invest more than €10 billion over the next five years on projects including leak reduction, burst repairs and treatment plant upgrades. The utility says this will deliver major improvements in water quality and security, but short-term disruption is unavoidable.

Signing up for the text alert service is free and straightforward – customers simply enter their Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie

People can also register on behalf of family members to ensure they stay updated.
