Major boost for Mayo town centre's regeneration efforts

Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for a major urban regeneration development at the heart of Main Street in Castlebar.

Jackita Limited, a company headed by local pharmacist and business Pat Staunton, secured the go-ahead for the demolition of an existing derelict two-storey building and construction of a new mixed-use building.

The new building will comprise of a retail unit at ground floor level, two apartments at first floor level, and two apartments at second floor level including bin and bicycle storage at lower ground floor level to the rear, together with all associated site works and connection into existing services.

The development is subject to 10 standard planning conditions.

When completed the project will provide another timely boost in rejuvenating the town's tradition core after a number of years of decline.
