Mayo firm The Cleaning Corporation celebrates 30 years in business

Castlebar based company, The Cleaning Corporation, is proudly marking 30 years in business, a significant milestone that highlights the firm’s long-standing commitment to excellence, innovation and community.

Founded in August 1995 by Castlebar native John Hall, The Cleaning Corporation was established after John identified a gap in the market for a reliable, professional contract cleaning service in the region.

What began as a small, family-run operation has grown steadily over three decades into a leading provider of commercial and residential cleaning services across Mayo and surrounding counties, employing over 60 local staff.

John’s wife, Lorraine, joined the company in 1999, bringing with her a background in Human Resources.

Together, the husband-and-wife team have combined their individual strengths to build a business that prioritises customer service, operational excellence, and staff development.

John leads operations, service delivery, and standards implementation, while Lorraine manages finance, administration, and business strategy.

“We’ve always focused on doing things the right way—from investing in people and training, to using sustainable methods and working closely with clients to deliver tailored solutions,” says John.

Lorraine’s dedication was recently recognised when she was named Networker of the Year at the Network Mayo Businesswoman of the Year Awards.

Judges highlighted her exceptional leadership, mentorship, and commitment to empowering others within the business, local community and developing other business people through mentoring.

Over the years, The Cleaning Corporation has also received multiple industry recognitions for service quality and operational standards.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

The Cleaning Corporation has long been a leader in sustainable cleaning practices. For more than 15 years, the company has used harvested and purified rainwater—processed through a reverse osmosis system—for window, carpet, and upholstery cleaning. This reduces both detergent usage and environmental impact.

A comprehensive range of services includes:

· Commercial Services

· Contract Cleaning

· Window Cleaning

· Floor Maintenance & Renovation

· Janitorial Supplies

· Technical Support & Design Consultation

Residential & Commercial

· Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

· Specialist Rug Cleaning

The company also works with local consultants in areas such as Health & Safety, HR, and customer support telephone answering service —freeing up internal resources to focus on growth and service delivery.

Quality Through People

Training and development are central to The Cleaning Corporation’s operations.

All staff, supervisors, and managers undergo regular upskilling in health and safety, compliance, and technical cleaning standards.

“Today, cleaning is about more than appearance—it’s about creating healthier environments,” Lorraine explains.

“Indoor air quality, contamination control, and hygiene management have become critical in workplaces, schools, and public buildings. We’re proud to lead in this area.”

Deep Community Connections

As a local business, The Cleaning Corporation is actively involved in supporting the wider Mayo community. The company sponsors several local organisations and events, including:

· Castlebar Golf Club

· Mayo GAA

· Breaffy GAA

· Mayo Roscommon Hospice

Lorraine also volunteers her time with community groups such as Soroptimist International Castlebar, and is a delegate for NWC – National Women’s Council of Ireland; Network Mayo, and Western Care.

Looking Ahead

From their purpose-built headquarters in Breaffy Castlebar, adjacent to their home, The Cleaning Corporation continues to evolve while staying true to the values that shaped the company from the beginning: trust, quality, and service.

As hybrid and home working become more common, John and Lorraine—who have operated from a home office for decades—are well-versed in balancing professionalism with flexibility.

“We’re grateful for the support of our clients, staff, and local partners over the past 30 years,” says Lorraine.

“Looking ahead, we’re focused on continued innovation, growth, and making a positive impact in the communities and clients that we serve.”
