'Acute' Mayo road safety issue set to be addressed soon

An acute road safety issue is set to be addressed in Drummin on the R318 Foxford to Pontoon roadway.

The news has been welcomed by local Councillor Neil Cruise due to the number of trees that fell onto the route during recent storms.

He stated: "This is an acute road safety issue and I have been working closely with Darren Reynolds in Coillte, local engineer Tommy Duggan, Pontoon Enhancement Group, the roads section of Mayo County Council and the executive of Claremorris/Swinford Municipal District to resolve this problem.

"I am delighted that the notice to close the R318, Foxford to Pontoon road from Monday, September 22, to Friday, September 26, to facilitate tree removal works, has been published.

"I wish to thank the aforementioned for their diligence and wish to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during the proposed works, to bring this important issue to a satisfactory conclusion."
