Mayo GAA Club 'devastated and heartbroken' over passing of former player

Swinford GAA Club has expressed heartbreak over the death of former player James Geraghty.

James of Creggane, Killasser, Swinford, died unexpectedly last Monday.

He will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his heartbroken parents Breda and Jim, brothers Rouge and Johnjoe, sister Megan, grandparents Eugene and Ann O’Neill, Jim (Leicester), uncles Frank, Paddy, John (Leicester) and Jaimee (Leicester), aunts Siobhan and Lauren (Leicester), his girlfriend Kayleigh, cousins Frankie, John, Robert, Jack and Delia, relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered on their immeasurable loss.

James was predeceased by his granny Jean (Leicester) and uncle Willie.

In a tribute on its Facebook page, Swinford GAA Club said it was devastated at the loss of the young man and former player.

"James played underage club football from Under-8 to Under-18 and was a very enthusiastic, passionate and talented footballer.

"He was dedicated to any team he played on, supported by his mother Breda who always made sure he got to training and games.

"He will be very sadly missed by his club mates and coaches.

"Our deepest condolences to Breda, his family and his many friends. We are heartbroken for your loss.

"May the memories of James and love of community surround you and give you strength for the days ahead."

The tribute also stated: "This team picture was taken after an East Mayo Under-17 final when James scored the winning goal for Swinford, it was a great moment for him and his team mates."

His remains will be reposing at Boland’s Funeral Home, Swinford, on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral Mass takes place on Saturday at 3 p.m. in All Saints Church, Killasser, followed by burial in Killasser Cemetery.
