Huge Mayo support for appeal in honour of former Swinford footballer James Geraghty

A GoFundMe appeal has been launched in honour of former Swinford footballer James Geraghty, Creggane, Killasser, Swinford, who died unexpectedly on August 25 last.

The response has been extraordinary to date.

The page had a target of €20,000 but more than €33,100 has already been raised by over 550 donations.

Friends of the deceased want to help the bereaved family in taking away any pressure and alleviate financial strain with the hope of raising enough to cover the funeral expenses.

The appeal stated: "We are reaching out to our community, friends and family to help us reach our target.

"Breda (James' mother) will make a donation to a charity of her choice in memory of James at a later date.

"Our focus now is to help and support the family as best we can."

The appeal was organised by Amy Conlon on behalf of James' mother Breda.
