Final round decider in Division 1 of Mayo Football League

With an equal points tally at the top of the Mayo Football League Helen Johnson Under 18 Division 1 table, Ballyhaunis Town and Snugboro United had both already qualified for the Quigley Cup before their meeting on Monday.

Yet there was a notable cup tie feel to this final league round fixture as a win for either side would secure them the Division 1 title.

Ballyhaunis Town started brighter than their hosts in Snugboro, enjoying most of the possession in the first half.

However, Snugboro soaked up the pressure and when half-time arrived, the score was still 0-0.

The visitors were faster out of the traps again in the second half and shortly after the restart, a brilliant strike from Joshua Maughan gave the Snugboro goalkeeper no chance.

Ballyhaunis barely had time to catch their breath as Snugboro hit back immediately with a goal from in-form attacker Tom Murray.

The 'Boro boys upped it considerably and in the space of five minutes scored three more times, courtesy of two goals from Daniel Filan and a brilliant strike from Andrew Gallagher, leaving the hosts 4-1 up and in full control.

That five-minute blitz stunned Ballyhaunis and there was no way back for them as the 'Boro boys defended resolutely and kept attacking relentlessly at the other end.

Odhran Donnolly, top goalscorer this season, added a fifth Snugboro goal, while late on Tom Murray got his second of the evening to give his team a 6-1 victory and the Mayo Football League Helen Johnson Division 1 title.
