Thieves target Mayo Tidy Town store in late-night raid

Ballina Tidy Towns have been left “heartbroken” after a break-in at their stores on Tuesday night resulted in the theft of thousands of euro worth of equipment.

The voluntary group, which works year-round to maintain and enhance the town’s appearance, said the raid will have a severe impact on their ability to continue their work.

Among the items taken were leaf blowers, strimmers, hand tools and other essential gardening equipment used daily by the team of volunteers.

In a statement following the incident, Ballina Tidy Towns described the burglary as a “despicable crime” and appealed for public assistance.

“As you can imagine this theft has left us heartbroken and will severely impact our ability to carry on the valuable work of our organisation,” the group said.

They have urged anyone who may have information about the break-in, or who is offered similar equipment for sale, to contact Ballina Gardaí or to reach out directly to the organisation.

Ballina Tidy Towns also paid tribute to the continued support of the local community, noting that volunteers take pride in ensuring the town and its hinterlands remain clean, welcoming and beautiful.
