Major changes for next season’s Mayo Super League confirmed

A number of major changes are being to the Mayo Super League for the 2026 season.

A split season will be introduced to the 10 team competition, whereby all teams will play each other once and after that initial round of games the top five and bottom five teams will be separated.

This almost ‘mini league’ structure will see the top five teams play each other twice, both home and away, with the same format applying for the bottom five teams in the top flight.

Relegation from the Super League and promotion from the Premier League will remain the same as last season.

There are no amendments for the Premier League, League One, or League Two.

However, there are new rules for team playing numbers: All (A) teams must name a minimum of 18 players, and an (A) team can only use three (B) team players in any one game. When a registered (B) team player plays five times with the (A) team he automatically becomes an (A) team player and cannot continue to play for the (B) team.

The new Mayo Football League season kicks-off on February 1, 2026.
