Mayo's Mary Robinson honoured by Royal College of Physicians of Ireland

Mayo native and former president of Ireland Mary Robinson has been presented with the Stearne medal by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

The medal, named after the founding president of the college, recognised Mrs. Robinson's "unparalleled contribution to global health, well-being and humanitarianism throughout her career."

The medal acknowledges people of distinction who have made a significant contribution to global health.

President of Ireland between 1990-1997, Mary Robinson, a native of Ballina, has led a distinguished career in human rights, having been the United Nations's High Commissioner for Human Rights, and co-founding member of The Elders with Nelson Mandela - which she served as chair of from 2018-2024.
