Mayo county town looking eye-catching as Town Towns results are imminent

When the results of the 2025 National Tidy Towns competition are released, the expectation is that Castlebar will have moved further up the ratings.

There has been a lot of outstanding work carried out in the community over the course of the past 12 months and the enhancements at Lough Lannagh and the town's roundabouts stand out as a highlights.

Locals and visitors, alike, cannot but admire the eye-catching nature of the flowers and shrubs that grace the roundabouts while the lake and the environs is simply top class.

This is all achieved Castlebar Municipal District, Castlebar Tidy Towns and the Castlebar Community Clean-Up Group working for the betterment of the community, efforts that are supported by many local people conscious of the needs to keep their streets spic and span.

In regard to those two aforementioned volunteer groups, there is a false perception that they are somewhat at loggerheads. The reality is that they carry out different projects for the overall good of the town.

While the non-cutting of grass in certain locations to create so-called biodiversity areas has been a moot point, many residents can look forward to them being mowed within the coming weeks as they continue to look very shabby.

This situation can be improved next year, however, if a concentration is focused on planting flowers in these areas with the same level of investment as has been witnessed at the roundabouts. The areas designed as biodiversity at Lough Lannagh also require similar attention.

But, overall, the town is looking better than ever.

It will never be perfect.

But it's closer to getting there.
