Dog rescued in north Mayo cliff mission
A dog trapped at the base of a steep cliff in north Mayo was rescued in a night-time mission during the week.
Members of Achill Island Coast Guard hauled the four-legged hiker to safety after the owner sought help after their pet became stranded.
Coast Guard members were tasked to Belmullet at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday where a dog had become trapped at the base of a steep cliff.
The volunteer search and rescue cliff team set up a technical rope climb and the barrow boy, supported by the team, reached the dog and safely secured it. From there, the haul team brought them both safely back to the top.
In an update on their social media, Achill Coast Guard extended thanks to their colleagues in Ballyglass Coast Guard Search and Drone Unit for their assistance and teamwork.
The incident concluded at approximately 1.26 a.m.
