New twist to Mayo GAA two-point controversy
The Mayo GAA two-point controversy has taken a fresh twist.
Hollymount Carramore GAA Club is to appeal to the Connacht Council over the decision of the Mayo Competitions Control Committee (CCC) to reject their objection to a score awarded to Kilmaine in their final group intermediate football championship clash.
A score signalled as a two-pointer was key in ensuring Kilmaine of a draw (0-18 to 1-15) and giving them of a place in the quarterfinal against Kilmeena at Hollymount Carramore's expense.
Hollymount Carramore's appeal over the score was thrown out by Mayo CCC at a special hearing earlier tonight.
This was despite the fact that footage of the game, which was screened by Mayo GAA TV, showed clearly that a one-point score by Kilmaine was awarded as two-points, the kick having been taken from inside the arch.
In a statement, the committee outlined: "We are satisfied that the score be allowed and recorded correctly in accordance with rule 7.5 n (ii).
The Connaught Telegraph has learned that Hollymount Carramore GAA Club is now referring their case to the Connacht Council.
This action throws a shadow of doubt over over the scheduled quarterfinal clash between Kilmaine and Kilmeena being played tomorrow week (September 20).
