South Mayo football club reach significant milestone in development
BALLINROBE Town AFC received great news on Thursday afternoon that Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for the development of new facilities for the club.
The new facilities will be located at Ballinaya, Ballinrobe, a mile from the town, on The Neale Road.
The grant of planning permission includes new soccer pitches and a clubhouse complex.
It involves the demolition of existing agricultural sheds (103m2), a new internal vehicular access spur from the established cemetery access road, to new clubhouse (370m2), and three new pitches comprising one full size grass pitch, one full size all-weather 4G astro pitch and one 9-a-side mini 3G astro all-weather pitch.
Car parking (93 spaces) and cycle parking (50 spaces) are also part of the plan.
In the future, the Robesiders will also continue to use their traditional home pitch at The Green, however this new development is needed for a progressive, growing club which caters for girls and boys underage teams, and women’s and men’s football.
