Leading traditional musicians to perform at Mayo concert

Diarmaid, Deirdre and Donncha Moynihan are widely considered to be three of Ireland’s leading traditional musicians. Their latest release, Black Brook, has received excellent critical acclaim with a 5 Star Irish Times review describing the album as 'A remarkable collection, three musicians reaching skywards on one of the albums of the year'.

Next Saturday, September 20, at 8.30 p.m., the Moynihans will play a concert in Bridge Street Bar, Castlebar. Special guests on the night include Fabian Joyce on guitar and Catherine Joyce on harp.

It promises to be a wonderful night of traditional and contemporary tunes and songs not to be missed.

The Moynihans are three former members of the groundbreaking band Calico, and their music has been recorded and performed by a host of leading folk artists including Lunasa, Flook, Talisk and Mike McGoldrick, among many others.

Following the release of the album in 2022, the trio have embarked on highly successful tours of Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Germany. They appeared at a number of major folk festivals in the UK in 2024 and kicked off 2025 by appearing at Celtic Connections in January.

Later this month, they are invited to perform at the National Concert Hall in Dublin for the innovative contemporary music series Tradition Now.
