Another good weekend sale at Mayo mart
BALLA Mart saw another big sale on Saturday, with some smashing cattle, while the good prices are driving out numbers.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €5.02/kg, stores 400kg to 500kg averaged €5.03/kg up, while heavier bullocks 500kg averaged €4.43/kg.
A Belgian Blue bullock weighing 485kg was sold for €2,940 by a Ballyglass farmer who had some lovely stores.
A farmer from Clogher had a 775kg bullock that made €3,500 and another heavy bullock that sold for €3,460. The best of the heavy bullocks were all bought by Northern buyers.

There was a special Continental sale, with just over 450 lots entered and nearly a full clearance.
Lighter store heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.78/kg, heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.68/kg, while those 500kg plus heifers averaged €4.32/kg.

Dry cows 500kg plus averaged €3.72/kg. Tops in the dry cows was a six-year-old BBX weighing 820kg that made €3,720 for a farmer from Williamstown, sold to a Northern online buyer.
There was a pen of stock bulls and they also got great buying by a factory buyer from the North. One six-year-old Angus bull was bought online for €4,740 from a farmer from Claremorris.
The best price this week in the springers was a February 2016 Limousin cow with a bull calf at foot, bought for €4,400 for a farmer from Westport.
