Good wishes extended in Dáil to Mayo aid worker Gena Heraty

Mayo TD Keira Keogh has thanked the Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris, his department and ambassadors for the work they did in getting aid worker Gena Heraty and other hostages released from Haiti last month.

In reply, Tánaiste Harris stated in Dáil Éireann: "I thank the Deputy Keogh mentioning Gena Heraty. It gives me an opportunity to pay tribute to her.

"I had the honour of speaking to her on the phone a while back. She is the closest thing I have ever encountered to a living saint.

"In Westport, County Mayo, and right across Ireland, there is great relief that Gena has been released from captivity.

"I thank her for the incredible work she does. I think of her family, who went through such a torrid time, but I am really glad Gena is doing well. I send her my very best."
