Mayo woman who died in tragic accident is laid to rest
A Mayo woman in her 80s who died after being struck by a bus while out walking last Monday has been laid to rest.
Marie Hession McMunn, Renmore, Galway, and late of Ballinaglee, Ballyglass, Claremorris, died in the accident on Old Dublin Road in Galway city.
Her tragic death has evoked an immense outpouring of grief in the Renmore and Ballyglass communities.
Warm tributes have been paid to her on social media.
One stated: "A beautiful, kind, caring and generous woman who brightened our days."
"She was a lovely lady in every sense of the word," another said.
"Marie always had a wonderful smile, full of fun," a further tribute observed.
Marie will be sadly missed by her sister Josephine Trench and Richard, her brother Jimmy and her sister-in-law Bridie, her niece Maria, Robert and family, nieces Patricia, Caroline, Keelin and Niamh, nephews Richard, James, Bernard, Conor, Eoin, Ciarán, Darragh and Cian, her step-daughter Deirdre and her daughter Ciara, her grandnieces and grandnephews, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
She was predeceased by her husband George, her parents Jack and Kitty, her brother Mickey, her nephew Seamus and her sister-in-law Mary.
Requiem Mass took place today in Carnacon Church followed by burial in Burriscarra Cemetery.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
