Minister confirms east Mayo Primary Care Centre will open early next year

The new multi-million euro Primary Care Centre in Ballyhaunis will be opened to the public in early 2026, Minister Alan Dillon has announced.

Following an update from the Mayo HSE West and North West, Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD said he was delighted to see that construction work is expected to be completed in quarter four of 2025, with the centre becoming operational in early 2026.

Minister Dillon said he had received a number of calls and queries in relation to the closure of the site during the summer after construction on the facility, which began in November 2019 but was stalled since May 2021.

Construction on the facility recommenced in November 2024, following negotiations between the HSE and the developer. However, construction closed for an extended period in July and August, and has since re-opened.

Minister Dillon said: “I am delighted to see there is progress on the facility, which will employ approximately 18 staff in east Mayo.

The HSE have confirmed that once construction is finished later this year, the equipping and commissioning phase will commence with the centre anticipated to be ready for operation in early 2026.

‘The services that are due to be delivered from the centre include a GP Practice, Public Health Nursing, Dental Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Home Support, Psychology, Dietetics, Podiatry.”

“The opening of the centre will be a significant development in the delivery of community-based health services for the people of Ballyhaunis and the surrounding areas.

I will continue to push for this vital project so the centre can be opened to the east Mayo community as soon as possible,” concluded Minister Dillon.
