Mobile phone coverage in Mayo 'disgraceful'

MOBILE phone coverage in Mayo has been branded a 'disgrace' in some areas.

The communications regulator has been urged to step in and penalise operators.

Councillor Damien Ryan has asked Mayo County Council to write to the regulator, saying coverage is disgraceful.

Calls are dropping all the time, he told a meeting of the local authority. You can be right under the mast and you're getting no coverage.

The regulator needs to step in and there needs to be a financial penalty if they're not prepared to improve the service, he said.
