SISTER MARY EDWIN BERRY, WESTPORT
Sister Mary Edwin Berry, CCVI, St. Placidus Convent, Houston, Texas, St. Michael’s Convent, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Clare and formerly of Westport.
The daughter of Edward and Annie Berry. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX, in April 1951 at St. Michael Convent, Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on August 15, 1959 at Villa de Matel, Houston, Texas.
To prepare for ministry, Sister Edwin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sacred Heart Dominican College, Houston, TX. Beginning in 1954, she began a life of service in the business office in many of our Health Care facilities. In 1981, Sister Edwin was missioned as one of the Founding Sisters to Saint John Hospital, Nassau Bay, Texas. There she spent the next 25 years ministering as the Business Office Manager, Treasurer, and Patient Representative. In ministry, she was known for her great kindness and her uniquesense of humour. In 2007, Sister Edwin retired from active ministry to dedicate her time to prayer at the Marian Convent in Villa de Matel, Houston, Texas.
Sister Edwin is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary Gannon of Coventry, UK; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sally Berry and Mrs. Teresa Berry of Co. Mayo, Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and the United States.
We extend a special thanks to all who cared for Sister Edwin during her final days at St. Placidus Convent.
Sister Edwin’s body was received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas, on Thursday, July 24, at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection was held at Villa de Matel Chapel on Friday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m.
On Friday, September 26,2025, the cremains will be brought to Saint Mary’s Church, Westport, Co Mayo, for the 10:00am Mass. Following Mass, the cremains will be brought to McMahon’s Funeral Home, at 2:00pm Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare.
The Rite of Committal will take place at 3 p.m. at Saint Michael’s Convent Cemetery, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co.Clare, in the presence of the sisters at Saint Michael’s Convent, Sister Edwin’s family and friends.
JAMES DOOLEY, THE NEALE
James (Jim) Dooley of Creevagh South, The Neale, Ballinrobe, and formerly of Leixlip, Co. Kildare and late of Shrule.

Predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Bridie, his brothers Damian and Oliver and his sister Mary.
Deeply regretted by his devoted wife Bernadette (née Coffey) and his cherished daughters, Aoife, Fiona (Murray) and Corrina (Byrne), sons-in-law Phillip and John. His adored grandchildren, James, Eleanor, Eoin, Cian and Cillian. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Irene (O'Connor) and Fiona (Cleary), brothers, John, Stephen and Vivian. Jim will be sadly missed by his nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family, dear friends and neighbours.
Reposing at the family home on Tuesday evening, September 23 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Funeral cortege will arrive at St., John's Church, The Neale for Mass of The Resurrection at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, with funeral then proceeding to Shannon Crematorium for service at 4 p.m.
JOHN O'BRIEN, SWINFORD
John O'Brien, Deerpark, Swinford.
Predeceased by his wife Mary, sisters Kathleen and Bernie.
Sadly missed by his brother Kieran, sisters Mary and Alice, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
Reposing at his home in Deerpark, Swinford on Tuesday, September 23 from 5.30 p.m. until 8.30 p.m.
John's Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 24 at 12 noon in the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians, Swinford prior to burial in Kilconduff Cemetery.
