New hangar proposal at Mayo airport business park
PLANS for a new aircraft hangar and warehouse storage facility at the business park at Ireland West Airport are before Mayo County Council for consideration.
EirTrade Aviation Ireland Ltd. are proposing to develop the new aircraft hangar facility as part of the expanding Airport Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Campus.
The development will consist of a new aircraft hangar with recycling, maintenance and repair facilities as well as warehouse, office, personnel and storage spaces and car parking.
It is proposed that construction works will commence in Q1 2026 and it is envisaged that the works will be carried out for a duration of up to 18 months, reports submitted to council planners explain.
The total number of construction staff on-site will vary during the construction phase of the works but are expected to peak at approximately 35 persons.
The project will involve the fully functioning operations of an airport hanger, with warehousing to store and recycle aviation parts and components. This will include the dismantling and storage of airplanes and airplane parts, maintenance of aircrafts, maintenance of the facility, with up to 50 office, warehouse and maintenance staff.
All defective or unusable airplane parts will be removed off site to an approved facility and recycled.
The proposed development will be constructed on a green field site adjoining the airport facility, accessed from the internal business park road network via the R376 regional road.
