Nurse thanked for her role in Mayo mountain rescue mission

A NURSE has been hailed for her role in assisting a woman injured on Croagh Patrick yesterday.

Mayo Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 5.30 p.m. by An Garda Síochána to help a woman who injured her ankle while descending Croagh Patrick and who was unable to continue walking.

The team reported how a young nurse who just happened to be passing stopped to offer help and dialled 999 for mountain rescue assistance.

She attended to the injured woman and waited with her for 90 minutes, until mountain rescue first responders arrived. They provided immediate emergency care while the stretcher party made their way to the location, bringing the woman to a waiting ambulance in Murrisk.

“Well done Nurse Maeve,” said the mountain rescue in a social media post. “We send our best wishes to this woman for a speedy and full recovery, and a big thank you to Maeve.”
