Bylaws extend casual trading to popular Mayo lake

CASTLEBAR is a step closer to having a coffee dock at Lough Lannagh.

Casual trading bylaws that clear the way for a coffee outlet at the popular local amenity have been adopted by local councillors.

Three submissions were received by the municipal district when the updated bylaws, which cover all the casual trading areas in the town, were advertised for public consultation.

The new casual trading area at Lough Lannagh is in addition to the existing locations at Hopkins Road car park, Market Square and Castle Lane.

The need for toilet facilities at each location was raised in submissions, and it was a matter Councillor Michael Kilcoyne wanted included.

He proposed an amendment - adopt the bylaws subject to the provision of toilets over a period of time. He was supported by Councillor Blackie Gavin.

However, his colleagues didn't want to see any further delay and wanted to have the coffee dock in place at Lough Lannagh as soon as possible.

It was also noted that there was no costing for toilet facilities, with mobile portaloo rental being very high. And the point was also made that public toilets are available at the Lannagh centre and in the council building, with baby changing facilities near Market Square at Dunnes and Tesco.

Members were told toilet facilities will be provided where feasible but were not included in the bylaws due to practical constraints.
