Mayo county town mourns passing of Sheila Shaughnessy
The death of Sheila Shaughnessy (née Counihan), Spencer Park, Castlebar, and late of Listry, Co. Kerry, is greatly mourned in the community.
The deceased had an immense passion for the Irish language and she served as a member of Castlebar Order of Malta for many years.
Warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.
One stated: "Her positivity and zest for life would brighten the darkest day."
Another said: "She was a loving, kind and very intellectual lady who had a great grá for the Irish language."
A further tribute recalled: "Sheila taught us home nursing during our time with the Order of Malta many moons ago. We learned so much from her."
She is deeply regretted by her daughters Bríghid and Eileen, sons Eoin and Eamonn, daughters-in-law Siobhán and Tricia, sons-in-law Ciarán (McLarnon) and Rupert, grandchildren Bob, Julia, Lara, Moya, Clíodhna, Oscar, Axel and Zak, nephew Brendan, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband Michael, brothers John and Eamonn, sisters Hannah, Dora and Sr. Augustine.

Remains will repose in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, this evening (Thursday) from 5.30 with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Requiem Mass on Friday morning at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
