Mayo & District Motorsport Club gears up for charity drive
Mayo & District Motorsport Club is putting the finishing touches on preparations for this year’s Margaret McGreal Economy Drive, with organisers confirming that Down Syndrome Mayo has been chosen as the charity partner for 2025.
The annual event, which combines community fundraising with a love of motoring, will roll out from Foxford at 11.45 a.m. on Sunday (September 28) before taking participants on a scenic 150-kilometre route through north Mayo.
Drivers and navigators will follow a carefully planned course showcasing the region’s breathtaking landscapes before returning to Great National Hotel Ballina at approximately 5 p.m., where the day will conclude with a gathering and presentation.
This year’s Economy Drive will also be preceded by a lively cars and coffee meet, giving car enthusiasts an opportunity to display their vehicles, swap stories, and welcome spectators.
Organisers say the combination of social and sporting elements makes the event one of the most enjoyable on the club’s calendar.
Down Syndrome Mayo, which provides services, advocacy and opportunities for people with Down Syndrome and their families, has expressed gratitude for being chosen as the beneficiary.
The Economy Drive itself is named in memory of Margaret McGreal, a much-loved local figure who embodied the spirit of community involvement, and a former secretary for the Mayo & District Motorsport Club. Her legacy lives on through the event, which has become a highlight for both club members and supporters throughout the region.
Local businesses are also backing the event, with sponsorships and donations helping to boost the fundraising efforts. Spectators are encouraged to line the route, cheer on the participants, and support the fundraising drive at the finish line in Ballina.
With cars polished, engines ready, and a worthy cause at its heart, the Margaret McGreal Economy Drive 2025 promises to be a memorable day for participants and supporters alike.
