West Mayo community grieves death of much-loved Mary Moore

The community of Fahy, Westport, is grieving the passing of one of its oldest and best-loved personalities, Mary Catherine Moore (née Kelly).

A member of a widely popular family, she died peacefully at her residence in Aughagowla surrounded by her loved ones.

Her passing marked the end of an era for a closely-knit parish in which she was held in such high regard by her neighbours and friends because of her generous and helpful nature.

Fond tributes to her on social media described Mary as 'a lovely woman, always most gentle and kind - and whose hospitality knew no bounds."

In a final, fitting tribute to the deceased, there was a large and representative turnout at her funeral ceremonies.

Burial took place in Fahy Cemetery earlier today following Requiem Mass in the Church of the Holy Family, Fahy.

She is deeply regretted by her loving family: sons John and Patrick, daughters Maureen, Kilmeena, Patricia Murrisk, Noreen, USA, and Olivia, Oranmore, daughter-in-law Mary, sons-in-law Peter, Chris, Neal and Keith, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Paddy Joe (USA), sister-in-law Maura Kelly (Gortnaclasser), brother-in-law Martin Coyne (London), nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Paddy, daughter-in-law Maire, and her siblings Sean, Pauline, Michael, Francie and Noreen.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
