Voices of the Centenaries at historic Mayo abbey
MAYO County Council Arts Service has announced a special evening of music with vocal ensemble Resurgam at Ballintubber Abbey on November 9 at 6 p.m.
The event - entitled Voices of the Centenaries - is part of Mayo County Council’s Commemorative Programme 2025.
Led by choral specialist Mark Duley, performers on the evening include Resurgam singers Aisling Kenny (soprano), Steve Wallace (alto), Rory Lynch (tenor) and William Gaunt (bass) and the Galway-based chamber choir Collegium, alongside musicians Malcolm Proud (organ) and Siobhán Armstrong (harp).
The commemorative theme for this event is Voices of the Centenaries, and the programme for the concert is Songs of Hope and Lament.
The ancient architecture of Ballintubber Abbey provides unique acoustics for live performances and it has hosted many music events over the years.
Resurgam was founded in 2003 by Mark Duley and is one of Ireland’s most acclaimed vocal ensembles, specialising in music of the 16th and 17th centuries. Resurgam is the premier project-based professional choir in the country, and many of its singers have parallel careers as international soloists.
With performances across Ireland, Resurgam is committed in particular to bringing the highest level of music-making to the west of Ireland, with a focus on places and regions where few professional vocal ensembles may perform.
The event is free of charge. Booking is required and tickets are available on Eventbrite.
This event is funded by the Commemorations Unit of the Department Culture, Communication and Sport.
