Big end of month Continental sale at Mayo Mart
BALLA Mart saw a big sale for the end of month on Saturday, with some great quality Continental cattle out.
There was some trade, well up on last week, with the best of the 450kg plus bullocks making €5.50 to €6 per kg.
There were additional farmer buyers from throughout the country, looking to buy good cattle, and commenting on how serious the quality was.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €5.03/kg, stores 400kg to 500kg averaged €5.08/kg up, while heavier bullocks 500kg plus averaged €4.61/kg.
A Charolais bullock weighing 470kg was sold for €2,820 by a Hollymount farmer.
Another farmer from Balla had a lovely bunch of bullocks, with one 805kg CHX making €3,540 and another heavy bullock selling for €3,500.
The best of the heavy bullocks were all bought by Northern factory buyers.

There was a fine sale of heifers, with just over 450 lots, and nearly a full clearance. Prices were up .30 to .60/kg for heifers over 400kg from last week.
Lighter store heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.70/kg., heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €5.08/kg, and those weighing it at 500kg plus averaged €4.76/kg.

Dry cows 500kg plus averaged €3.66/kg. The tops in the dry cows was an April ‘22 Limousin weighing 775kg that made €3,780 (€4.88/kg) for a farmer from Dunmore.
There was a pen of stock bulls and they also got great buying by a factory buyer from the North.
The best price this week in the springers was for an April 2023 PB Limousin cow, due next month to ‘Loyal’, that was bought for €5,600 from a farmer from Knock.
