Mayo wind farm to supply Kildare Innovation Campus with renewable electricity
In a significant step towards sustainability, Kildare Innovation Campus, undergoing a €2.4 billion redevelopment, has signed a three-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Flogas, a DCC company.
The CPPA will supply the campus with renewable electricity from the Cuillalea Wind Farm in Mayo, reducing its carbon emissions by an estimated 2,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Facilitated by Flogas, this agreement provides Kildare Innovation Campus with a fixed-price and transparent energy supply directly linked to a specific renewable energy producer, ensuring budget certainty.
By providing a stable, long-term supply of affordable renewable energy, the CPPA empowers Kildare Innovation Campus to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming Ireland's only carbon-neutral science, innovation and technology campus, shielding them from volatile energy markets and supporting their commitment to reducing their environmental impact.
The agreement will power its state-of-the-art office spaces and advanced research facilities, showcasing the campus' dedication to innovation and sustainability.
The 5.1 MW Cuillalea Wind Farm will directly contribute to these efforts, demonstrating the viability of renewable energy for large-scale commercial operations and setting a new standard for sustainable business parks.
"Sustainability is no longer a luxury; it's a business imperative," said Allan Shine, CEO of Kildare Innovation Campus.
"This partnership with Flogas and Cuillalea Wind Farm is a game-changer for Kildare Innovation Campus, allowing us to attract environmentally conscious tenants and investors while significantly reducing our carbon footprint, we’ve found the support of our key account manager in Flogas invaluable.
"By choosing local, traceable, renewable wind energy from a specific renewable asset in Ireland, we are setting a new standard for sustainable commercial development in Ireland and demonstrating our commitment to a greener future."
Flogas leverages its deep experience in the energy market to deliver tailored CPPA solutions.
Understanding that each business has unique needs, Flogas seamlessly integrates these structures into existing electricity supplies, providing long-term price certainty and supporting the continued growth of renewable energy projects across Ireland.
"We are proud to partner with Kildare Innovation Campus and Cuillalea Wind Farm on this groundbreaking CPPA," said John Rooney, managing director at Flogas Ireland.
"This agreement demonstrates Flogas' commitment to providing accessible and affordable renewable energy solutions to businesses across Ireland.
"By combining our strong customer relationship management, our in-depth knowledge of the Irish energy market and strategic relationships with Irish wind-power generators, we are enabling Kildare Innovation Campus to power their operations with clean, sustainable wind energy and achieve their ambitious sustainability goals.
"We are also exploring the potential for Solar as a Service (SAAS) solutions with the campus in the future, and a broader range of services from sister companies in the DCC group - further enhancing their sustainability efforts."
This agreement strengthens Flogas' role as a trusted energy partner, supplying Kildare Innovation Campus with gas and power since September 2023, a relationship recently extended with a 12-month gas supply agreement.
