Major commercial blow for Mayo town as top fashion outlet is closing
Don Racine ladies fashion shop has announced the permanent closure of its long established business on Castle Street, Castlebar
The shock news is being received with regret and sadness in the community because it represents the end of an era.
The business was opened in 1981 by the late Michael Parsons with his wife Margaret, who recently retired, and has traded successfully at the forefront of ladies fashion for just under 45 years
The business in recent years had been managed by Michael's son Martin and daughter Helena, both well known in the local community.
Speaking to The Connaught Telegraph, Martin cited continuously rising costs and aggressive online competition as some of the factors in the decision to close.
Martin wished to thank their very loyal staff and customer base over the years for being so supportive of the business.
Don Racine will hold a closing down sale, starting this week, with all stock greatly reduced and the business will continue to trade until stock runs out
Don Racine is another family-owned retail business that will be greatly missed when it closes its doors for the last time in the coming weeks.
