Saga of Mayo's 'mysterious street sweeper' back in the spotlight
Council management in Mayo has been asked to clarify if a street sweeper, which has spent a lot of time in the 'sick bay', has been sold at auction.
The status of the 'rarely used' piece of equipment was questioned by Councillor Ger Deere.
Describing it as an 'ongoing saga', they never seemed to see the 'mysterious street sweeper' working, hiring one out instead, he believed, at a large sum of money every week, said Councillor Deere .
And now he was being told it had been sold at auction recently.
Councillor Deere said he didn't know if this was a fact but he had been told this was the situation and he wanted clarity on it.
That aside, Councillor Deere said they had bought the machine new and it always seemed to be in the sick bay.
And he wondered about a warranty to get the machine fixed after they bought it, noting it was rarely used.
Councillor Deere requested a report on the matter, saying he could guarantee that if it was sold at auction, whoever bought it will have it back up running again.
