Driving test cancellations skyrocket at Mayo centres

By Conor Curran

Driving test cancellations in Mayo have dramatically increased compared to 2024, according to figures obtained from the RSA.

As of September 29 last, a total of 301 driving tests due to take place in the Castlebar test centre have been cancelled throughout 2025.

This has more than doubled from the 127 tests cancelled in the same test centre in 2024.

Ballina has seen nearly triple the number of cancellations since last year – 79 driving tests have been cancelled so far this year, compared to just 28 in the entirety of 2024.

Driving tests can be cancelled for several reasons, including a lack of tester availability and adverse weather conditions.

Applicants can also have their tests cancelled by request, or if they fail to meet the requirements for the test itself.

This number does not include those who book a driving test but fail to show up for it.
