Mayo gets green light for appointment of sixth council director

Mayo County Council has received approval to fill an additional post at director of service level.

Kevin Kelly, chief executive, has informed elected members of the authority that he proposes to fill the position on a temporary basis.

The council is currently served by five directors, namely John Condon, Peter Duggan, Joanne Grehan, Tom Gilligan and Catherine McConnell.

Mr. Kelly said the new post will allow the council 'to align its structures with comparable local authorities'.

He elaborated: "It will allow for consideration of a re-alignment and re-assignment of functions across directorates and, having regard to the priority of housing, will provide the opportunity for a dedicated director with responsibility for housing and associated functions."
