'Brave decisions' needed to tackle Mayo town's traffic congestion
TRAFFIC congestion in Castlebar urgently needs to be tackled.
Pinch points at Rathbawn Road and Linenhall Street, backing up out the Pontoon and Turlough roads, have been raised by Councillor Harry Barrett.
There are serious delays at Rathbawn Road in the morning and serious decisions need to be taken, said Councillor Barrett.
And the situation was similar coming into the Linenhall junction from the Lahardane, Ross and Turlough directions.
Calling for 'brave decisions', he requested the most effective engineering solutions be brought before the elected members that they can vote on and make decisions.
Traffic issues on the other side of town were raised by Councillor Al McDonnell, who said it takes him 25 minutes to get from the Belcarra junction to the Castle Street car park, via Scoil Railteiri.
Traffic all over town seems to have increased over the last 18 months, he said.
And they will get worse with the completion of major housing projects in the Snugboro areas over the coming years,
