Mayo to celebrate Climate Action Week with over 25 events
FROM October 9, communities and organisations around Mayo are coming together to celebrate Climate Action Week.
Events vary from GAA gear swaps to tree planting, bread making workshops to booklet launches, and celebrations of achievements such as O’Hora’s Greenwall in Ballina.
Climate Action Week in Mayo is part of the nationwide Climate Action Week initiative which is coordinated by An Taisce’s climate action team on behalf of the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.
Mayo County Council invited local community and voluntary groups across the county to apply for funding to help organise Climate Action Week events that raise awareness and inspire action on climate issues. Due to the large response, Mayo Climate Action Week has been extended to a 12-day event from October 9 to 20 to allow time to incorporate all the events.
Mayo County Council's climate action coordinator, Laura Dixon, said ahead of the events: “It is truly inspiring to see so many communities from across Mayo putting on events to mark Climate Action Week.
“This highlights the commitment of community groups to work towards a better future for all.
“Their energy, creativity and collaboration show that real climate action starts on the local level and this Climate Action Week demonstrates that and invites the wider community to join in.”
