Mayo Artists Show invites submissions this November
THE Linenhall and Ballina Arts Centre are joining forces once more for the popular bi-annual Mayo Artists Show, an opportunity to rejoice in the talent of visual artists across the length and breadth of this beautiful county.
While one of the greatest privileges for both teams is to work with artists and witness the transformation of the venues’ respective galleries throughout the year, it is always especially memorable and a feel-good occasion to showcase the talents of Mayo’s finest visual artists across the gallery walls and spaces.
Submissions are invited from Thursday to Saturday, November 20 to 22. The associated timings for submission vary, so artists are advised to check directly with their venue of choice for specific details.
Submissions are open to those over the age of 18, either from or living in Mayo. Artists at all career stages are welcome to submit up to three pieces of visual art, in any discipline. A submission fee of €5 per artwork applies. As always, this bi-annual show presents a cornucopia of work in all manner of media.
This year’s exhibition will be hosted in the Linenhall’s main Visual Arts Gallery, with Ballina Arts Centre hosting in their Concourse Gallery. Works should be no larger than 100cm in any direction, including frame. Sculptures and digital media work are accepted in the Linenhall. Ballina Arts Centre can only accept wall based two-dimensional work. If you are submitting digital media work please include information on how you plan to exhibit the piece. All work must be presented in a condition ready for exhibition.
As in previous years, the Mayo Artists Show will be curated by a professional curator who will carefully select the work for both galleries. The curator for 2025 will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The Mayo Artists Show will be launched on Friday, December 5, at 6 p.m. in the Linenhall and on Saturday, December 6, at 2 p.m. in Ballina Arts Centre.
Currently showcased in the Linenhall Gallery is a beautiful children’s exhibition, Cat Crainn agus Madraí Uisce, by artist Corrina Askin, inspired by the magic of Manchán Magan. The interactive exhibition is for ages 4-12 years and explores words for nature and our connection with the natural world.
Askin’s vibrant artwork, combined with a bilingual soundscape by Manchán, forms an exciting, playful exhibition for young people. Accompanied by an engagement programme for schools and families including tours and workshops, it is open to the public until Saturday, November 15.
