Green light for new Mayo golf clubhouse

PLANS by Mulranny Golf Club to construct a new clubhouse have been approved by An Coimisiún Pleanála.

This upholds a council decision to grant planning permission for the project, which was subsequently appealed.

The development at the popular seaside golf links includes the construction of a new single storey clubhouse, storage, vehicular access ways and parking area along with three practice putting greens.

Issues raised in the appeal included the building's height and close proximity to a neighbouring dwelling, which would negatively impact on privacy, while the new road would present a safety risk for young children.

Questions were also asked about the hours of operation and use of the function room and in relation to hospitality.

Having considered all matters, the appeals board agreed with their inspector's finding that the proposal was in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.

Subject to planning conditions, it would not seriously injure the residential or visual amenities of the area or of property in the vicinity and would be acceptable in terms of design, visual and landscape impact, environmental impact, access and car parking, and in relation to lighting impact.
