Funding concern about future water and sewerage upgrades at Mayo airport

FEARS have been expressed about the future upgrading of water and sewerage services at Ireland West Airport.

Uisce Éireann have indicated they will not be upgrading the services and funding will have to come from the airport itself.

Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry Murray revealed the situation at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council yesterday where members were discussing the strategic development zone at the airport.

It was 'disgraceful', he said, calling on the board to review its decision.

This is the information he has received, he explained, adding: “I hope I am wrong.”

Councillor Murray said the rationale is that the airport is a standalone commercial entity, with no domestic element in terms of water and sanitation.

It was indicated that Uisce Éireann will not be funding the upgrade of this infrastructure into the airport.
