Mayo graduate to represent ATU in Student Engineer of the Year final

ATU energy engineering graduate James Swift, together with his supervisor Dr. Laurentiu Dimache, will represent ATU Engineering in the final of the Siemens Innovative Student Engineer of the Year 2025.

James, from Castlebar, was named joint overall winner of the Undergraduate Engineering Competition at the ATU Galway Engineering Exhibition in spring 2025 with his project, “Harnessing Hydrogen – A Study into Renewable Energy Storage Using Hydrogen.”

The project explored the use of hydrogen fuel cells as a clean and efficient method of storing renewable energy.

The Siemens final will take place at Engineers Ireland head office, Dublin, at noon on Wednesday, 22 October.
