Mayo rugby club a hive of activity
The Castlebar Rugby Club junior men’s team recently commenced their Junior One (A) League season under the guidance of coaches Paul Coady, Christy Cusack and Paddy Flannelly. Training has seen over 40 players taking part between the first team and the second team. Training takes place every Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 p.m.
On Saturday, October 25, Castlebar will travel to Limerick to face St. Mary’s in the All-Ireland Junior Cup. Kick-off is at 2.30 p.m. and your support would be appreciated.
Youths’ rugby
Castlebar RFC have very successful youth teams competing in both the Connacht Rugby league and cup competitions. The club’s underage teams continue to progress each year.
The club fields teams at under-13, under-14, under-16, and under-17 level. Castlebar are always looking for new players to join their underage teams and those interested are asked to please contact Alex Goor at 087 418 1799.
Mini rugby
Mini rugby is a great way to make new friends and Castlebar Rugby Club hosts mini rugby sessions at Cloondeash every Saturday from 9.45a.m. until 12 noon. The times and age groups are as follows: 9.45 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., under-7’s, 8’s, and 9’s; 10.45 a.m. to 11.45 a.m., under-10’s, 11’s and 12’s. Parents who would like to register their child for the mini rugby coaching are asked to contact Paul Heverin at 083 0127822. Parents can also register their child any Saturday morning prior to training.
The ethos of mini rugby is to foster and develop young players (boys and girls) of all ability to the game of rugby in a safe, non-competitive and enjoyable environment with qualified coaches, through activities which ensure progressive skill development for all participants.
Girls Rugby
Training for Castlebar RFC’s girls’ teams are as follows: Under-14 girls’ Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., under-16 girls’ Tuesday and Thursday, 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., under-18 girls’ Tuesday and Thursday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Social Scene
Castlebar Rugby Club hold various events throughout the year including their annual lotto, race nights, barn dances, and golf classics.
Every St. Stephens Day the club holds a Presidents team versus Club match, where former players and friends get a chance to catch up once again, and this is open to everyone.
