Uisce Éireann welcomes lifting of boil water notice on Mayo scheme
Uisce Éireann has welcomed the lifting of the boil water notice on the Johnstown/Lavellyroe Group Water Scheme (GWS) in east Mayo with immediate effect.
Customers on this supply can now return to using their water as normal for drinking, food preparation and all other purposes.
The boil water notice on the Johnstown/Lavellyroe GWS had been in place for a number of years.
The scheme was successfully connected to the Uisce Éireann public supply in August 2025 and satisfactory testing results have shown that the water on the supply is now safe for normal use.
Barry Garvin of Uisce Éireann Asset Management acknowledged the challenges posed to customers on the supply by the long-term boil water notice and thanked customers for their patience while the issues were resolved.
He said: “A boil water notice which lasts several years is a significant inconvenience for customers and communities, and we are glad to have reached a point where the notice can be lifted and customers can resume safe use of their water supply.
“We wish to sincerely thank affected customers for their understanding. We also wish to thank our colleagues in Mayo County Council water services and the members of the group water scheme for their co-operation in ensuring that a solution to ensure a clean and safe water supply has been found.”
