Modular sauna and wellness plan for Mayo town centre site

A MODULAR mobile sauna unit and wellness space is being proposed for a town centre site in Castlebar.

The non-permanent wellness project, Neart Sauna, is on a currently underutilised plot at the back of Main Street, at the Castle Street car park.

It is described as a 'small scale but high impact wellness and recovery experience' in planning documentation and features a timber-clad mobile sauna unit, cold and warm plunge baths, and an open green space for biodiversity and relaxation.

Daithi Gallagher is the applicant in a section 5 planning declaration submitted to Mayo County Council.

All elements of the project are moveable, placed on the surface, and constructed in a style that prioritises sustainability, visual harmony and minimal environmental impact.

The submission says that in addition to delivering a much-needed public wellness offering in the town centre, the project aims to green and reactivate a disused urban space, supporting Castlebar's regeneration, wellbing and biodiversity goals.

Its central setting in a busy, active town with a broad base of sports clubs and fitness enthusiasts makes it the perfect location to establish a premium sauna and cold plunge experience.
